Marathi Poet – Pu Shi Rege

P. S. Rege (Pu Shi Rege) was a member of the generation of navakavya who appeared in Marathi in the 1930s and 1940s.

Born in 1910 in Ratnagiri District in the Konkan region of Maharashtra.
Studied economics in Bombay and London in the 1930s.
Taught economics at various colleges in Maharashtra and Goa.
Retired in the 1970s as the principal of Elphinstone College, Bombay.
Began writing in the 1930s and continued until his death in 1978.

Pu Shi Rege’s work in Marathi includes -

Eight books of poems including Dusara pakshi (1966 ), Priyala (1972 ), and Suhrdgatha (1975 )
Two collections of short fiction
Three novels
Many Marathi plays (Marathi Natak)
Two volumes of essays and criticism

Interview of the great Marathi Poet – Mangesh Padgaonkar published in Marathi Newspaper Saamana.

Mangesh Keshav Padgaonkar, Marathi poet, was born on March 10, 1929 in Vengurla, Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra. A Master of Arts in Marathi and Sanskrit from the University of Bombay, he was an Editor with the U.S. Information Service in Mumbai. Although better known as a poet, he is an accomplished essayist. He is the recipient of several awards including the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980, the M.P. Literary Conference Award in 1956 and the Maharashtra State Award in 1953 and 1955. — From The South Asian Literary Recordings
